Mosquito abatement services are provided by Bloomingdale Township and Clarke Environmental Mosquito Management, Inc., and covers the entire township including the Village of Bloomingdale. 

Mosquito spraying and other treatments typically start in the spring and continues throughout the year until late fall, weather depending.  Normal spraying is done at regular intervals depending on need.

Residents experiencing unusually high levels of infestation may call the Clark Mosquito Hotline at 800-942-2555 to request a a special spraying.   Any questions or concerns regarding this program, please call the Township at 630-529-7715.

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County will treat 16 local forest preserves (including Meacham Grove in Bloomingdale) for Gypsy Moth between May 10 and June 10, 2010.

Beware of the Guys in Yellow Jackets

In summer and fall we head outside for tailgating and outdoor festivals. Some unwanted guests come all dressed up in black and yellow. Yellowjackets are in the bee and wasp family. The yellowjacket's ability to repeatedly sting makes them a considerable health threat. Yellowjackets alone are responsible for about one half of all human insect stings.

Tips to Avoid Ticks and Tick-Borne Illnesses

With people and pets spending more time outdoors in summer, the DuPage County Health Department offers precautions to avoid tick bites and decrease the risk of tick-borne illnesses.

Bagworms

Bagworms are often compared to caterpillar larvae, as the worm hides itself in a self-constructed bag likened to a cocoon (hence the name bagworm).
