West Nile Virus Confirmed in Bloomingdale July 27, 2010

MosquitoThe DuPage County Health Department confirmed on Tuesday, July 27 that one mosquito trap in Bloomingdale tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV).  According to the release issued, no human cases have been reported.

To address both the nuisance and increased WNV mosquito surveillance since that time, Clark Enviornmental will be performing an adult mosquito control Township wide on August 16 and August 30, weather conditions permitting.  They will continue their larval control program to help reduce all mosquito breeding into September including site inspections based on historical data specific to Culex breeding areas (primary WNV carriers) and an additional treatment of catch basins to slow Culex breeding.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommend residents take precautions to protect themselves and their families from mosquito bites.  Especially important is the use of insect repellant containing DEET (N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide), Picaridin, (KBR 3023), synthesized Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (PMD) or IR3535 when mosquitoes are active. For up-to-date information on WNV, please visit the Centers for Disease Control West Nile Virus website at http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/westnile/index.htm or the DuPage County Health Department's Web Site, or call (630) 682-7400.
