Bloomingdale Fire Protection District #l

fire shieldThe mission of the Bloomingdale Fire Protection District #l is to ensure the safety and well-being of the district through prompt and professional services in the event of fire, medical emergencies, disasters and other events which may threaten the public welfare.

The district, a combination career and paid-on-call (volunteer) department, covers approximately 19 square miles and serves over 35,000 residents. Communities protected include the Village of Bloomingdale, and portions of Addison, Glendale Heights, Hanover Park, Itasca, Medinah, Roselle, and portions of unincorporated DuPage County. There are Automatic Aid Agreements with several surrounding communities to provide additional manpower and equipment should the need arise.

The 39 career personnel, nine paid-on-call, and six civilians operate fi-om three stations. The new Headquarters Station at 179 South Bloomingdale Road was dedicated on September 30,200O. This 24,000 square foot station not only accommodates a majority of the district's current equipment, it also allows for increased growth of the district. The headquarters contains administration, fire prevention, training, and a centralized dispatch in addition to the equipment and firefighting personnel assigned to the station.

Most of the career firefighters are cross-trained as firefighters and emergency medical technicians (paramedics and EMT-B's). Firefighters are trained in fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, rescue, and other ancillary activities. The fire prevention bureau conducts inspections of commercial, industrial, and multi-family buildings within the district. In addition to these inspections, plans are reviewed for new construction. Other responsibilities involve reviewing tenant space remodeling plans, and fire alarm and sprinkler drawings.

The district provides tours, educational information, and presentations to schools and groups within the community upon request. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) classes are offered monthly for a nominal cost (covers course materials). Call 630-894-8488 for additional information about CPR classes or any other district program.
