Q. How do I obtain a solicitors permit?

Residential solicitation for the sale of items door-to-door requires an application be filled out and turned into the Police Department. The applicant then needs to schedule an appointment at the Police Department to have an I.D. made. The I.D. is to be worn on the outside of their clothing so that residents know who is at their door. If there is a NO SOLICITOR sign posted at the residence, the solicitor is to leave the premise. For more information or to download a Solicitor Permit Application, click on this link.

Q. When is the tornado siren activated?

The severe weather/tornado siren is activated when severe weather or a tornado is in the area. We suggest you monitor local radio or TV for weather updates during severe weather or if you hear the siren activated. Please DO NOT call 9-1-1 when you hear these sirens.

If severe weather is in the area and the sirens are activated, please take shelter immediately in the lowest floor of your home. If you do not have a basement, take shelter in the room that has the most protection and is away from windows.

The siren is tested the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m.

The system also allows an "attack" mode. This is a wavering sound and is only used for Homeland Security warnings. For more information, go to the DuPage County Homeland Security website at http://www.co.dupage.il.us/oem/.
