Traffic Unit

The goal of the Bloomingdale Police Department Traffic Unit is to reduce the number and severity of traffic accidents in the Village of Bloomingdale.

The Traffic Unit is comprised of two officers that work at different times of the day. The unit is supervised by one of the patrol shift Watch Commanders. These officers investigate the majority of the public roadway accidents that occur in Bloomingdale.

In addition, they conduct follow-up investigations for all hit and run accidents. They are also dedicated to enforce the traffic laws in our state with emphasis on speeding, failure to yield the right of way, driving under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, seat belts, and following too closely. Their enforcement efforts are generally in areas where there are higher accident rates or areas where the community has requested help in traffic issues. Other activities conducted by the Traffic Unit include traffic direction and parking enforcement.

In addition to the Traffic Unit, several of our Bloomingdale officers are certified as breathalyzer operators, many are certified truck enforcement officers, certified child safety seat technicians, and 3 are state certified traffic accident reconstructionists.
